Metaphor - Subconscious Mind Power
NLP Metaphor - Subconscious Mind Power | By Dr. Rafiq Dar Neuropsychologist
Metaphor is a story of a line or few lines which affects thinking. Metaphor makes communication interesting. Now critical mind doesn't work. Idea goes directly into subconscious mind. We follow our subconscious mind.
Metaphor accesses subconscious mind. Newton first law applies here. Now subconscious mind needs stronger thought to disrupt that thought already there. Story attracts most attention. 5:00
Examples of Metaphor: Lesson inculcated in the story. Union is strength (Story of Sticks).
Haste Makes Waste (Hare and Tortoise Story). We never thought how Hare and Tortoise communicated. Story made this change in our thought.
This is art of Metaphor. Ashfaq Ahmed Khan, Wasif Ali Wasif; were teachers, not psychologist. With their stories people got healing.
[Ad: “I choose a lazy person to do a hard job. Because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it.” Bill Gates]
Metaphor disables critical mind. Subconscious mind has great memory strength.
4 years kids will do hifz in 6 months or 1 year (has no critical mind). For an old man of 50-60 (here critical mind is perfectly developed), may be impossible.
Hypnosis, metaphor, poetry have same effect. Palm of hand vs Moon.
Often listened metaphor creates resistance.
Most stories are created by visionary people.
Sometimes we need customized metaphor.
10:50 to 11:30 To heal someone creating metaphor is not unethical.
Stylish presentation makes it more effective. Metaphor has its worth. Sometimes low voice works better.
Subconsciously, we have already adapted many bad habits / thoughts.
Suicide bomber gets prepared through metaphor. Trainers make it visual. They can show haven from window. 15:34
NLP is a package. You are adding cherries (metaphor, anchoring, matching mirror) to plain cake to look nice.
Types of Metaphor: a statement, a line, a story.
Presupposition for metaphor; same story with different style / angle.
If metaphor is creative, relevant; better. Union is Strength. Hare and Tortoise.
Metaphor equates two items.
Metaphor must not super mirror, not stereotype (to repeat without variation).
Metaphor takes us in the past. Stories are always in the past.
Metaphor must describe the problem along with solution. This is a skill to access subconscious mind. When subconscious mind understands the solution, it works.
In poetry, we get focused on rhythm, not meaning.
Mujhe Lahore se Mohabbat he, nahin kisi aor se Mohabbat he. This rhythm mesmerizes.
Songs / lyrics; we don't care about meaning.
Metaphor gets so close; it can make you laugh / cry.
Sometimes you need simple talk, it all depends on audience.
Visual Metaphor: TV drama / audio. Emotional story [Emotional suggestibility – A suggestible behavior characterized by a high degree of responsiveness to inferred suggestions that affect emotions and restrict physical body responses; usually associated with hypnoidal depth. Thus, the emotional suggestible learns more by inference than by direct, literal suggestions.]
Some intellects don't need any metaphor at all.
On the basis of complexity, we need implied (long) / sustained metaphor. There are examples of Dead Metaphors; short ones [in the same boat]. 26:43
There are cultural, religious, scientific metaphors.
Trainers, speakers start from metaphor.
Ashfaq Ahmed Khan; his popular story. He was on visit in Italy. He got an over speeding traffic ticket which he forgot to pay. When he appeared in court and told that he is a teacher. The justice stood up and all the people in the court.
May be this metaphor would not so effective in USA or Europe.
Experts use metaphors for psychological healings.
Trainer, teacher, psychologist, counselor, parents; use metaphors.
We all use it informally. But structuring makes it more effective.
Literal metaphor doesn't work. Family and friends' metaphor is not effective.
Professionals induce value in it. Make communication lively. Metaphor varies from person to person.
Relevant character / solution / problem / behavior works more effectively.
Disadvantages of impatience, advantages of patience. Keep solution as mystery. Listener cannot catch mystery.
Give problem and solution as package. Metaphor must be logical. Not like monkey swimming in water. Appropriate context. Comply culture and religion. You can use anchoring. Everything according to matching personality.
Time is needed to learn. Application time is very short.
Identify the issue, then design the story.
A mother brings her child. Mother wish he become doctor. Child wants to work in films. Why he wants to work in films, for money.
Receive some surprise guests from family who can tell that one family's child became film star. He started job of $25K. Get him to a bad voice singer. Ask singer, how much he earns. Do this all without getting child realized that you're doing this all intentionally.
Fame: you can change the passion. Know the need of the client. Then tailor metaphor for him.
